Implants

Speed and Skill with Implants

When it comes to implants, SPEED & SKILL is often required.

Speed in gaining an appointment
Speed in processing a treatment plan
Speed in arranging a general anaesthetic
Skill in removing a cracked or fractured tooth
Skill in preserving the remaining bone
Speed in providing an implant of the appropriate length and diameter
Speed and skill with membranes, screws and flaps
Skill in taking a fixture level impression
Speed and skill in fabrication of heat cured bridges & provisionals

The new multi-tasking chores of immediate implants require prompt responses by a trained surgical provider who possesses exodontic surgical skills and prosthetic skills in the operating theatre.

At our practice, we are able to provide a prompt response to trauma or emergency implant patients needs without the delay of seeing a specialist oral surgeon or periodontist. In addition, the patient can be offered a choice of either a local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic at South Perth Surgicentre within only a few days. We also carry every Branemark implant length and diameter, all prosthetic components for the early construction of provisional aesthetic solutions and can rapidly construct/repair or reline high pressure heat cured removable and fixed structures using an Ivomat, a service most surgical specialists are either reluctant or ill equipped to provide.

The advantage of using a general dentist, surgically trained, to provide all or part of the implant process is not only "one stop shopping" but also simplified liability and also he is multi-skilled in exodontia and prosthetics, a necessary blend to allow the patient rapid and convenient transition during healing.

Your selected surgical provider should be skilled in recording fixture levels, the adjustment of provisions (by adding as well as removing acrylic) and should also be capable of repairing and fitting provisionals at stage 2. That surgical provider should also carry all exodontia instruments for the extraction of teeth, a skill not practiced by periodontal specialists as it is inimical to the restriction of their practice to periodontics.

The surgical trained general dentist, versed and experienced in the removal of third molars, impacted canines and surgical removal of molars is well placed for referrals from other general dentists given his additional prosthetic experience and equipment, yet another untrodden area by oral surgeons and periodontists. The referring dentist may wish to attend, complete or just observe or, as is often the case with the emergency implant case, refer the patient to a trained practitioner prepared to cancel other patients or see them after-hours in order to place the implant promptly and efficiently.

My commitment to implants commenced in 1986 when attending the second training course, following which I completed other courses including the surgical training course and since then acted as the founding Secretary of the AOS(WA)

As it is my intention to restrict my practice exclusively to implant surgery and prosthetics in the future, I welcome you to refer any of your intended implant patients to my total or preliminary surgical care.
