Important COVID-19 UpdateMore Info

Dear Valued Aardent Dental Centre Patient, It seems that all we hear and talk about these days is COVID-19(Coronavirus). Nevertheless, we want to reassure you that we are taking extra measures in addition to our usual stringent hygiene practices. The health of our patients, staff and anyone who enters the building is of paramount importance to us. We are taking a multitude of precautions as recommended by the appropriate health authorities (and some of our own). These include,

  • Spacing of waiting room chairs by a minimum of 1.5meters.
  • Removal of magazines, newspapers and children’s toys from the waiting room.
  • Offering patients to wait in their cars if they prefer.
  • Insisting that all people who enter the building use hand sanitiser (provided).
  • Asking all people to practice high levels of cough/sneezing hygiene.
  • Requesting that anyone with a temperature/flu like symptoms contact us and postpone their dental appointment.
  • Regularly sanitising building surfaces like doorknobs etc.
  • Requiring patients for some procedures to rinse with 1% hydrogen peroxide solution (known to kill coronavirus in the mouth).
  • Availability of non-contact body temperature devices for patient screening if the situation escalates.

Please rest assured that we are open for business and able to continue our excellent level of treatment for you.

As you will be aware the situation is ever changing as will be our response. We will endeavour to keep you informed along the way.

Kindest regards,

Richard Williams

Meet Dr. Hugh Gillespie

Experience across various clinics and educational institutions over the years has taught me quality dental care combines knowledge and skill with compassion and kindness.

My journey in dentistry began in 1986 upon graduation from Johannesburg University in South Africa. I later joined the Royal College of Surgeons in 1990.

A significant step in my life was embarking on an overseas adventure that saw me arrive in Australia during the mid-nineties. Fantastic weather and friendly people made me feel right at home.

Enjoying all fields of dentistry, a lifelong love of learning keeps me engaged in developments at the forefront of the field.

I’m also passionate about dental education. Helping dental students gain the knowledge and experience they need is fulfilling. In the past, I held the position of clinical demonstrator at the University of Queensland, and at the University of Western Australia.

Part of my role as a dental practitioner is to ensure you understand the range of treatments that can transform the functionality and appearance of your teeth. As someone who performs both general and cosmetic dentistry, I take pride in helping patients make informed decisions so they can be assured of the best dental outcomes.

When seeing a dentist, clear communication contributes greatly to a positive impression. Patients should feel comfortable asking questions and requesting information. Know that I will always take the time to engage and run through aspects of your dental care with you.

Joining Aardent Dental Centre in early 2026, I was happy to discover a friendly team who immediately made me feel welcome. I love the sense of community here that extends to all our patients. The clinic has been part of East Victoria Park for almost half a century, with a long history of quality care.

As a dental professional, I find satisfaction in treating people from different generations and stages of life, including entire families. Oral health is important and can have a significant impact on the body at every age. We all deserve to eat comfortably, free of pain, confident our teeth are in the best possible condition thanks to a comprehensive dental care plan.

I know that for some, a dentist appointment sounds like a stressful time. Dread of dental care can see patients delay until a simple fix is no longer enough, making a more complex procedure necessary. Whatever your situation, I’m here to help.

My aim is to inspire a sense of trust. Nervous or anxious patients will always be met with empathy. Expect my best efforts to make your next dental appointment as pain-free and relaxed as I can.

An active lifestyle

Cycling is a favoured pastime, and I enjoy skiing. A round of golf is a great chance to catch up with friends while hitting the green. Western Australia is a beautiful place to live, but I’ve always been a travel enthusiast. Heading off on holiday offers an unforgettable chance to explore other cultures and locales. And of course, I make sure to take time to relax.
