Important COVID-19 UpdateMore Info

Dear Valued Aardent Dental Centre Patient, It seems that all we hear and talk about these days is COVID-19(Coronavirus). Nevertheless, we want to reassure you that we are taking extra measures in addition to our usual stringent hygiene practices. The health of our patients, staff and anyone who enters the building is of paramount importance to us. We are taking a multitude of precautions as recommended by the appropriate health authorities (and some of our own). These include,

  • Spacing of waiting room chairs by a minimum of 1.5meters.
  • Removal of magazines, newspapers and children’s toys from the waiting room.
  • Offering patients to wait in their cars if they prefer.
  • Insisting that all people who enter the building use hand sanitiser (provided).
  • Asking all people to practice high levels of cough/sneezing hygiene.
  • Requesting that anyone with a temperature/flu like symptoms contact us and postpone their dental appointment.
  • Regularly sanitising building surfaces like doorknobs etc.
  • Requiring patients for some procedures to rinse with 1% hydrogen peroxide solution (known to kill coronavirus in the mouth).
  • Availability of non-contact body temperature devices for patient screening if the situation escalates.

Please rest assured that we are open for business and able to continue our excellent level of treatment for you.

As you will be aware the situation is ever changing as will be our response. We will endeavour to keep you informed along the way.

Kindest regards,

Richard Williams

and the

Aardent Dental Centre Team

There is nothing worse than whitening your teeth and ending up with some teeth whiter than others. Uneven teeth whitening treatment results can make you feel more self-conscious about your smile than ever.

Follow Aardent Dental’s top tips to prevent an uneven finish when using home whitening to lighten your teeth.

1. Always use a custom-fit whitening tray

Don’t be caught out by cheap over-the-counter whitening trays. The generic sizing will create a poor fit and poor distribution of the teeth whitening treatment. Instead, speak to your dentist and request a tooth whitening consultation.

2. Avoid foods and drinks that stain

In the lead-up to your teeth whitening treatment, try to avoid food and drinks that can stain your teeth, as they can lead to uneven results. Staining compounds can affect certain teeth more than others, particularly those at the front of the mouth. Try to avoid things like coffee, tea, soft drinks, and berries in the lead-up, and ask your dentist for a thorough scale and clean before applying the treatment.

3. Avoid over-the-counter bleaching agents

Again, while over-the-counter products might be appealing, they contain a relatively low concentration of peroxide. They are also not as stringently controlled as professional whitening with your dentist. While they might work well on lighter stains, they don’t have the strength to remove darker stains, which can make your teeth look uneven in colour. Instead, speak to your dentist about the appropriate whitening products for your teeth.

4. Get your teeth thoroughly cleaned first

We encourage you and your family to schedule a routine check and clean every six months to keep on top of any developing oral health issues. However, if you intend to apply a teeth whitening treatment, we strongly recommend you have a check and clean. This process will remove any tartar build-up, which often develops in tough-to-reach crevices and can result in an uneven appearance after whitening.

5. Ensure you complete the treatment

Follow the teeth whitening instructions and ensure you leave the treatment on for the correct amount of time. If you become impatient and remove the treatment early, it can result in uneven whitening. No one wants patchy teeth, and different tooth parts change colour faster than others. For example, the thinner your enamel, the faster the bleaching. Read all the instructions carefully for the best results.
